Abatix sponsors UC Santa Cruz Free e-Waste Recycling Benefit

UCSC is holding a free e-waste recycling benefit Saturday, April 24 on Santa Cruz Westside.

Electronic waste such as computers, monitors, printers, televisions, VCRs, scanners, and cell phones will be collected and recycled for no charge Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 2300 Delaware Ave., Santa Cruz, corner of Delaware Avenue and Natural Bridges Drive, on the Santa Cruz Westside.

The community recycling event is sponsored by UC Santa Cruz as part of Earth Week and is organized and managed by PSC Environmental Service, a hazardous waste contractor for the University of California.

A complete list of e-waste that will be accepted for recycling can be found at http://ehs.ucsc.edu/2010ewaste. Materials not eligible are also listed.

E-waste recycling is open to all residents of Santa Cruz County and UC Santa Cruz and will take place rain or shine. PSC will recycle all electronic waste in a sustainable and secure manner. Half of net proceeds will be donated to World Bicycle Relief, providing bicycles for children in third world countries who need transportation to school. The remaining half will go to UCSC to support sustainability efforts.

Local sponsors include Ace Portables, CalTrans, Community Agroecology Network – CAN, Crystal Springs Water, PSC Environmental Services, Santa Cruz Nutritionals, UCSC Physical Plant Buildings and Utilities Services, UCSC Physical Plant Grounds Services, UCSC Physical Plant Surplus, UCSC Student Environmental Center, UCSC Transportation and Parking Services.

The UCSC event is one of many across the country that PSC Environmental Services holds with universities and communities. National sponsors include Abatix, Clean Earth, Electronics Recyclers International, and Home Depot.
